View Full Version : Seymour: Love him or hate him?
So, I've noticed that in a lot of places, there seems to be a lot of conflict about Seymour.
So what do you guys think? I thought Seymour was a pretty good villain, as there was something about him that made you just despise him so much. Maybe it was that he killed all the ronso or the fact he just wouldn't stay dead. Also, his crazy transformations were awesome in a horrific kind of way too.
So all in all, I think Seymour was a great villain.
I think he was a wannabe. Just like Seifer, but then with weird hair, and even more psycho. I really didn't like Seymour, nor did I like fighting him. 4 times.

I am going to have to choose a neutral position. He was a little dry for a villain. Although they hid his villainous qualities quite well for the beginning of the story.
I did enjoy fighting him and I do like his boss battle music :D It gave me an FF9 feeling to it :)
Seymour annoys me. There's a brilliant line you see in anime sometimes: "I wouldn't die even if you killed me!" I think that pretty much sums it up.

Heh, any HHN vets that were around during my early days will remember I originally registered with the username "Seymour"
So, I think my answer is obvious xD
He is a brilliantly written villain. The twist that demonstrates he actually is a villain is predictable, but the way they wrote his lack of care for the event and his excessive obsession with greater power was just so enchanting. o.o

He was a unique villain, I'll give him that much. But the voice, the VOICE was so annoying!
You could tell he was someone who would become a villain from the moment you first meet him. Though as a villain he sucked... and it was annoying that you had to fight him 4 times because he just wouldn't die.
I didn't hate his character over all.. but I think he should have died the first time and stayed gone. =P Or at least make us think he was dead and not have to fight him again till the end.. 4 times is just ridiculous.

Haha I actually liked his voice. It was so calming, great fit for a total psycho path :)
But I didn't like it so much when he yelled - then his voice became quite ugly to listen to.

Then you should feel the same about Seifer/Rajin/Fujin? You have to fight them far to much as well, but they in fact had understandable motives and personalities behind them.

Seifer was awesome though, Seymour was just "alright". Seymour was supposidly a villain.. while Seifer was more of a rival to Squall then a full-blown villain for the most part of the game.. and I doubt without Seifer.. that Squall would have been how he was.
Also when you fought Seifer.. I don't remember him dying after nearly everyone of them. I dunno I could be mistaken on that.. but Seymour would actually be killed off or believed to be.. only to be revived and WTF you again.

Well, Seymour is also in a way a rival to tidus; as
Both are competing for Yuna, and considering Seymour is in fact trying to become the bad guy, with kind of the same situation for Seifer, they do have a lot of comparisons.
And Seymour was dead already, but not yet sent, same as master mika.

Neither, sadly. I didn't mind him and really didn't think much of him. He was just "there".
I guess he did kill the Ronso tribe and I always hated them with a passion ...

I think Seymour was a great villain because he was always calm in a sadistic kind of way xD
I really did enjoy fighting him and all of his crazy transformations
and the fact that he did not give in even through death was what made him a great villain.

Seymour Flux is why I stopped playing that game. Didn't matter how much I powerlevelled, he'd always act first.. and hit me with enough zombie->full-life combos that I never actually got a single attack in on him. Got so sick of watching that damned cutscene before the fight with him that I just took the disc out, put it back in the case, and have never looked at it since.

happened to me too dude,
I charged up my Aeons overdrives before fighting him and used each Aeon one by one and it worked. The battle was so easy when i did it that way.

Hmm did you try maybe protecting yourself from zombie, or perhaps try casting reflect on yourself to prevent him spamming it at you?
I don't remember which part of the game Flux was on but I always remembered that I had the hardest time fighting the regular Seymour - especially when he started to go psycho near the end with his multi magic. Well thankfully Yuna had all her Aeons charged up :)
But don't give up! It is such an excellent game :)

I'm throwing my sword into the proverbial ring if that's a decent enough term and jump straight in with, Seymour was a nuisance. I don't think he was necessary to gameplay. I think Square-Enix intended him to be a villain people would think "This guy is as badass as Sephiroth" or even Seifer but in comparison to all other FF villains, he was a nuisance and a terrible bad guy. Yes, he killed all the Ronso but didn't really have much of an excuse for doing it other than showing off his overly exaggerated power. The guy is the jerk of the Final Fantasy world.
I did however in the opposite corner, suggest in a different post that Seymour would have made a much better permanent party member. He was annoyingly over-powerful but I think he'd have served well as a rare Red-Mage character. And it would have been awesome to see how HIS sphere grid would look.

I think what Depu and Rebellion said is the same way that I feel about Seymour. The dude was psychotic, making him your enemy and longing for that time when he was (finally) dead. lol. But really you have to look at the fact that he just got in the way more than anything, because ultimalty you were after Sin.
But I do look at what you said, Xarim, about how he was a wannabe villian, which in a sense is true, seeing as he wasn't really the true enemy in the game to begin with.
I guess overall, even if I did like him, he was just more of a threat that countinously got in the way . I feel like he was very power hunger because of his motives, which, IMO, made him a good villian. If that made any sense  ;)

You.. are... JOKING... right?
FFX is the easiest FF ever.
I managed to beat the game without problems.
Hell on like my 12th playthrough I beat the game WITHOUT EVER USING THE SPHERE GRID.
Haha.. imagine beating the game with characters only having 300 HP and a weak ass attack. It made it a little more challenging but it was still easier then some other games.

I think he could have been much more BA. I mean, at first he carries himself as an elegant, mysterious yet enigmatic person, sort of like Kuja did. Even when he summons Anima, that was one of the most BA scenes in the game. Also, when he helps you fight one of the Sin spawns, that's amazing as well. However, later in the game he becomes this annoying guy who pops up constantly, only to be owned more times than Krillin >.>

Someone i know is dressing up as him for halloween, so it'll give me a chance to act out my dream of laying the smackdown on him. having said that i have to agree with what kelranox said, mysterious to start with but a mere nuisance later on.

What ever dude, to me, IV was the easiest of the series.
Getting lost was my only problem.

I saw that I already replied to this topic but I am actually change my mind. I kind of like Seymour, he beats Shuyin in X-2 as a villain... Shuyin was just a sad, lost soul to be honest and I actually pity him... I like Seymour better than Jecht, like I also felt sorry for him since he just had problems expressing himself...
Seymour was a pain in the butt to fight but he was still fun. I also liked controlling him, and it was a shame that we couldn't control him even more .
Now how about this being a sweet deal: Seymour being introduced into Dissidia along with Yuna from X-2 (her X version but too hard to incorporate into this fighting action game). I would LOVE to fight as him... They need to bring Seifer in too...but thats off topic.
I like him more now probably because I think he is cooler than the recent antagonists.. I feel like the recent ones we are just fighting some sort of God or a power hungry politician.

No offense, but it sounds like you're just trying to show off rather than give actual comments or help. That's the way it comes off to me...
Tharrick, you should try getting your aeons drive filled up, and then spam that stuff right at the start. Yeah the aeons die straight after, but they always dish out good damage. Also get up your characters' overdrives.
It's been awhile since I've played it, but you can try to get auto remedy by having Rikku customize it, which makes his cures heal you. :)
Zombie Ward helps as well as Haste(ga). If you use Kimahri, Mighty Guard is also your friend.
There's also patterns in his attacks. Use them to your advantage. Good luck!

Seymour was genuinely creepy and his back story was really sad. Was I the only one who freaked out when it was discovered that Anima is SEYMOUR'S MOM?!
