Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep is a prequel of the original game that will be released exclusively on the PSP. You play the story of Terra, Ventus en Aqua.

Glad Square Enix finally announced the release date (7 September in USA and 10 September in Europe). I'm really looking forward to this game. :D

I'm surprised no one's made a thread for Birth by Sleep until now. =P

I've heard about this game so much, and I want it; however, I'm not one of those over-excited people, since Kingdom Hearts isn't my favorite series, to say. Still, I'm looking forward to it, nonetheless, but September 7 is a loooong ways to come. >>

Birth By Sleep looks pretty cool, but I am actually more looking forward to Kingdom Hearts 3 (Come on, you know its going to get worked on one day :P).
Though Terra and Aqua look hella cool to play with, though :D

Myself, I personally prefer Ventus. I think it's just because I've always been a Roxas fan? x3

I picked this up yesterday for the US release and I'm quite happy with it so far. I'm really into the Command Board game. Reminds me a lot of the game Culdcept Saga combined with some elements of a race. Definitely a fun mini-game, allowing the player to escape the fundamentals of KH whilst still keeping the UMD in their PSP to get more out of the game. I decided to start with Ventus' story, but so far I think my favorite character is Aqua. Also, the character who is the detailed represented tribute to Hironobu Sakaguchi = epic WIN! :D Leave it up to Nomura to pay his respects in such a creative way :3

I think the game is so far the most inviting in the entire the series. Definitely well worth the $40 price tag I paid for it. Although, it's now just another game I must finish D:

I think it looks awesome too for only being $40! I wish I could pick it up but I think im going to wait til my thanksgiving break, otherwise I won't get any school work done! :D
I wish it would have been a PS3 game though, that would have been epic! Because, while the PSP is a great system (IMO) I think it would have been a rockin PS3 game!

You need it naooooooooo!
xD Jk, dun want it to get in the way of the important biz! o.o
I am spending most of my time on the mini games >> But the game overall is impressive.
Some peeps say that Ventus =/= Roxas, but I say.... YES! o-o

I also played this game and I own it. It is loads of fun, and reminds me how amazing the PSP is.. Square Enix always seems to fully take advantage of the full specs that the PSP can handle.

So far I am playing as Aqua... She's a lot of fun :) I do like Ventus though. Terra is fun to control in battle. I like switching command styles though especially when I have haste for Ventus :D

I wish I played through the other Kingdom Heart games to really understand the full story!

*slightly off topic*: I heard they are making a Kingdom Hearts recoded for the Nintendo 3DS I really wish they'd put that on PSP as well or try out our Smart phones...

Yea, I also have it by now ( as is noticed from the chatbox convo's lately :P). I played through it with Terra now, and I'm wokring on my Ventus play-through. Altough so far I really prefer Terra's fighting style over Ventus' one. The story for Ventus is however more rewarding (Organisation members as humans; awesome!). Can't wait till I can finally piece together the gaps in my KH knowledge.

Yea I also read about Re:Coded coming out on the DS, but is it going to be the 3DS? I'd prefer the regular one...

You are most likely right that it will be for the DS not the 3DS... I think I mixed it up with Final Fantasy VII Before Crisis being remade on to the 3DS... Sorry!

Re: Coded is a normal DS game, although they have released a trailer for a game which is, for now, named Kingdom Hearts 3D.

So I got this for my birthday a few days ago. I started off with Aqua, she's very fun to play with, and she has a plethora of magic in her arsenal to toss around. I love the concept behind making new magic and skills by combining magics that you no longer use with items. Great concept.
Also, it definitely is more inviting than KH2. Story wise its moving along rather slow, but that said, I only played with Aqua so far and am not finished doing her side of the story yet. I will play as Ventus after I am done with her story. Terra and Aqua and Vanitas are my favourite characters so far. I love the character design of Vanitas, and of course Master Eraqus is a nice nod to Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Speaking of Vanitas... second battle with Vanitas... god-damn, I haven't lost this hard since the KH1 days... against Riku in Hollow Bastion, or fighting Chernabog in the last World in the game.
Very fun game so far though. The primary villain is very intellectual with pretty well-grounded motives for his actions. I can't wait 'til I dive more into the story as I know it serves as the back-bone of the overall story of Kingdom Hearts.

The game looks cool, but tbh. Square Enix is stretching the out the series way to long, to much story to understand imo. (Just like FF7 -_-) Can we just have a 3rd Kingdom Hearts game with the traditional characters? Im all in for story, but Im not the one who likes long boring stories that requires actual research and theories to comprehend and solve. (Once again, like FF7) And dont space it out so much and make 50 million prequels/sequels just to cover it all, because that seems to be what were getting to.

Sorry if NOTHING of what I just said made sense. Im just speaking from what popped into my head.

Tl;dr:
Make a 3rd kingdom hearts, dont make the story tedious, and have the traditional characters.

Oh no, your post is completely comprehensible. I definitely agree that there shouldn't be so many spin-offs, like Re:coded, 3D, Chain of Memories, and 358/2 Days. They do explain simple things and help us understand certain concepts in the storyline, but its pretty nuts how many titles there are now...

That said though, Birth By Sleep does not fall in that category, at least with story. It literally explains a lot of things from what I know of it, such as why Sora and Riku are Keyblade masters, and where the series is actually headed with Kingdom Hearts 3. Story and character development wise, this is one title I would not want to skip.
