Facebook, do you think it is a dangerous tool to have, or is it one of the most brilliant inventions ever? What is your opinion on it!?

I for one am a user of facebook, I try to limit my time on it as much as possible. I don't like how it takes up a lot of my time, and that I use it as my main source of communication.

I also have fears about the images I produce because of facebook. I fear that it gives me a bad reputation based on the pictures and friends I have (as some friends post inappropriate comments on my wall). I also fear stalkers, or people that join in on my business.

However I am in relief that it is an easy way for people to keep in touch. I am also kind of sad that sometimes it is the only way they keep in touch with me, I lose that physical contact.

So in the end, I am still yet undecided, what do you all think?

Facebook is good at what it does being a social networking site. It takes the 'social' part quite seriously, as people can easily communicate using the website. I think that this is the main reason its currently the #1 social networking site on the web. I like using it to keep in touch with people.

However, one should be wary of controlling one's own privacy on the website. Facebook has a notoriety of changing user's privacy settings without informing them. Facebook had a case about that a good while ago. So I would say for those who use the site or want to use it, make sure you dig your teeth into the privacy settings first and foremost before actively using it.
Some might argue there is no such thing as privacy on the internet, but I find that an irrelevant argument with regards to Facebook. Because there is so much interaction, getting control over everything that is posted on Facebook with regards to yourself is pretty difficult. So like I said, keep sharp tabs on your privacy settings and account settings, and everything should be okay. And also be sure not to distribute images of yourself that you don't want floating around, as I heard that Facebook also has a database that stores everything that is submitted to it, such as pictures. I might not have actual data to back that up, but I'd advise on not taking a risk.

Other than that, if you like social networking, Facebook's the way to go at the moment. While I think Myspace is a better website (as you have direct control over everything that appears about you and your whole profile), social interaction is vastly superior on Facebook.

Facebook is great. It's safer than Myspace.

I hate facebook. I mean a lot. But all my friends are on it and some of them don't communicate much in other ways...and it's nice to have somewhere to put my random thoughts. So I get sucked into the whole thing much more than I would like. I tend to always have FB open in the background, and I refresh the page quickly to see if I have any messages or comments to look at. Just between other bits and pieces.

What I do NOT do is going around 'Liking' things. Am gonna go on FB right now and copy and paste some of the crap that shows up in the news feed all the bloody time when people I know do this:

XXXX likes You can tickle my pickle any day ;).
XXXX likes moo i'm a fish. and You know what . . . f*uck you :) on likebox.in.
XXXX likes find the happy face :( :( :( :( :( :) :( :( :( IF YOU FOUND IT LIKE on russellhope.com.

THIS is what I don't get!!!

Facebook is ruined.

I remember when Facebook first came out and was restricted only to University/College student's only as a means of keeping in touch with their friends/family as they parted into post-secondary. That was when it was decently used.

Now they opened it up to the millions of childish users and allowed free uploading of application to spam our walls daily.

... ruined.

It's fun though. Then again, I'm young.

Meh not sure what I like it about it to be honest. I only use it to talk to people. I hate facebook chat because it is hard to keep up with all the conversations. Also I don't like any of the flash games on there, I just rather play videogames. I do however like facebook groups :) it reminds me of little forums hehe. But I like to do most of my forum talking here :D

Any site where the 'founder' (who, when confronted with evidence that he stole the code and IP, settled out of court...)/webmaster refers to his users as 'dumb fucks (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/05/14/facebook_trust_dumb/)' and frequently resets their privacy settings is not a site I want to be doing business with.

I use it the same way I use Myspace and Hyves ( a dutch social network, comparable to Myspace), knowingy contacting people not online on MSN/ people I've met a few times, or seeking information from certain people. And I can share photos I like trough it.

That's bang on Tharrick! I was discussing that with Kimmie and couldn't agree more.

I won't lie. I use Facebook myself but I have only entered what little information about me as I feel's needed to be known for the simple reason, Mark Zuckerberg is an arsehole and a complete douchebag. The site is full of security flaws, many accounts even getting what they call "fraped" nowadays because it's so easy to keep yourself logged in/have someone else get your details. I use Facebook for one reason only, mostly to keep in touch with the likes of Tom Storvik, Maarten and Kim and my friends from even further afield because life can be so busy it's hard to let people know how you're doing. But the site is poor. I use it only when I feel the need to put something on. I couldn't and wouldn't use it everyday. No disrespect to those who do.

I also find alot of the security flaws stem from those applications also which I might add, I never use. I think I've added perhaps one or two but other than that I've always be wary of them.

Pretty much this too, but since its the most commonly used one I'll use it too for the sake of ease ;x I'm just conciencious about keeping my security settings up to date.

I only joined in the first place to look at photos of my secondary school prom which I never made it too ;x!

I don't play FB games. Farmville's got nothing on Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon.

I actually don't use FB often, though I play that Restaurant game which is kind of fun, tho it tends to be a bit boring after a while :P

I didn't put my real info on FB. I said I was like, 85 and living in Tunisia. My friends still knew me so they were fine with it.
