Okay the darn boss keeps killing me when he goes on that magic rampage and I heal like crazy I even switch to Combat Clinic like a lot, and I am using Fang, Hope and Lightning.
I am also using Evenly Odds a lot to keep up buffs and healing.
Not sure what else to do!!

This boss is the last boss in chapter 9... Has anyone beaten him yet?? If so can you share me your strategy :D
MUCH APPRECIATED :D

Okay I just beat him!! But if anyone else is haviing trouble with him, just make sure you use Solidarity when he starts going on the magic rampage that way it won't hit your entire party, and Hope can cast heal on himself mainly because Fang will be buffed up with her Sentinel role. Also try to chain and stagger him once you get only the main part of him, it goes a lot faster.
Summoning Odin really saved me though at one point so that was helpful to do XD

I found the easier combo was to use Hope, Vanille(hopefully you took them both down medic path aswell as others) and Fang.

Use saboteur, saboteur, medic, switch to com, rav, rav after you debuffed him with what he isnt immune to and try to stagger him, switch to com, med, med when HP is about half way and switch to sen, med, med when he goes to use thantosis laughter. When he's staggered just try to deal as much damage as possible. Its quite a long fight really

Haha you used what I did Soul, Fang as Sentinel was what worked for me. Just kept switching her back to that. Figured it out on accident, but made it pretty easy.

I forgot what I did, but the magic was never a problem. If you're using Hope, try to get him to casts some enchancements on you.

If I remember right, I had fang, vanille, and lightning. Vanille, if you chose medic for her (which you should have) is a better medic than Hope if you chose Hope to be the medic.

Remember that each character is the best at a certain role .

Hope - Ravager
Fang - Sab
Vanille - Medic
Snow - Sentinel
Lightning - Commando
Sazh - Synergist

I had lighting cast Blitz on the Thunder/Fire side, and it eventually knocked that side down before they did much dmg. Than, a bit after he started casting waterga and Blizzaga, I took down that side, and than he kept spamming destrudo and attacking slow, making the battle just a grind to the finish. Destroyed him my first try.

Actually, thats wrong. Each character has 2 roles they are best at. Solme more then 2, as each character has a primary and secondary role.

Hope Ravager/Medic
Lightning: IS an all round balanced fighter but works best as commando/ravager
Fang: she is actually good as commando, sentinel and saboetur (highwind ftw)
Vanille Medic/Rav/Sab
Sazh Synergeist, Ravager
Snow Commando/Sentinel

Umm... no I'm not wrong. I said each character is THE BEST at a certain role. Not that they're only good at that role. I switched up my team a bit. I use Lightning as commando, than have Sazh and Hope as synergists. By the time I really need to heal (all really depending on the enemy), I have all the enchantments up. Although I did grind a LOT when I first got to Gran Pulse.

I literally brought him down to about one more combo to kill, when the DOOM counter ran out of time and I died. I was pretty upset, and this was only half an hour ago. Other than that, he's pretty easy, and I know now how to take him out.

Here's what I did.

- Shroud up before battle, all the buffs.

- Lightning [COM], Snow [SEN], Vanille [RAV]
- Just power through killing the armour, this part is pretty easy.

- When he goes to do Destructo, you have time before it actually shoots, so use this times to get his stagger gauge up. Remember though, it resets when he goes into this mode, so if you're going to use Quake, do so here.

- The key is to survive his destructo without having to revive everyone. You get a Gold Ring (or something) before the fight, I literally maxed this upgrade up before the fight, putting it on Lightening for +380 HP. This is a life saver.

- When he's about to shoot, go double Heal (Light, Vanille) and let Snow do his sentinel thing. Hopefully you survive the blast. Have your ATB gauge charged with Cure, and the moment you get up, cast it on yourself, and switch back to fighting.

- Repeat (slow process)

- Now what I didn't do, but plan on doing is waiting for him to cast Doom before using Odin. That's why I'm not going to use Quake the next time I fight him, since I just have to repeat the above process and overtime he'll die.

- Odin did a lot of damage when I used him at the beginning of the battle, and since I was able to bring him down to one more combo death, I should be able to take him next time.

Hope this helped. :)

I find Barthandelus the hardest boss so far in the game. I just beat him, but he was annoying. My party members were Lightning, Snow and Vanille and I before I started the battle I used 2 shrouds to increase defense and cast haste etc. As COM, REV, REV I first defeated all the heads first.

Then when he used Destructo, you have some time. Try to attack him and when you do enough damage his Destructo is less powerful. And of course heal a lot.

I'm glad I defeated him, died two times.

Did anyone had any trouble the 2nd time you have to fight Barthandelus?

I died two times. In the first battle he casted Doom way to early (only half of his HP was gone) and the second time I forgot to heal and died.
Third time I used shrouds and staggered him a lot with RAV/RAV/RAV and then attacked him with COM/COM/REV (or COM/COM/MED) and continued to do that till he was dead.

This battle wasn't as hard as the first encounter.

I'm fighting him at the end of this chapter, but considering I already grinded enough to get Fang, Hope and Lightning the full Crystarium available so far, I think I will be fine. Personally I think I'll mainly use Diversity, combined with Relentless Assault. I like to do damage :D
