I decided to browse these songs on youtube today.
The Japanese version of Final Fantasy XIII uses Sayuri Sugawara - "Kimi ga Iru Kara" as their main theme while the North American, and European version of the game uses Leona Lewis, "My Hands" theme song instead.

If you want to have a listen, click on these links.

Sayuri Sugawara - "Kimi ga Iru Kara"

I myself prefer "Kimi ga Iru Kara" because I feel it has more of a Final Fantasy tone to it, and it is more JRPG-like rather than a Western RPG. I am also slightly biased because I am NOT a Leona Lewis fan at all, her voice drives me nuts.

What do you think?

I like both songs (not a Leona Lewis fan either though).

I do think My Hands does fit the scene very well too. The other one to me sounds more like a part of the soundtrack, not the theme. But that's just me, maybe partly because I have been hearing My Hands with it for so long now it just sounds "right".

Hate Leona Lewis.. but her song fit perfectly with the spoiler/trailer video I watched and seemed to fit with the theme of the game.

I can't stand the English music they picked, it's so Hollywood sounding. Even if the lyrics were pretty much identical, the Japanese picked song has a proper melodic feel to it that just suits a Final Fantasy game. Or maybe it's a mix of that and the language.

Well its a JRPG, so its normal they pick another Jpop artist for the song.

But don't forget that it's also "THE FIRST FF FEATURED IN XBOX360" , which based heavily on the America. To lure the overseas audience, Commercialize the game by having an international popular artist singing another theme song is probably the easiest way to attract them.

Utada Hikaru can't beat up to the american market until last year, after being one of the most talented pop artist in japan for 10+ years.

Its normal for them to put Leona on the international version i said. The song is pretty good. Even tho i prefer Sayuri's "kimi ga iru kara", "My hands" is still a great song.

Its all about the feeling, people. The feeling........

I can't stand Leona Lewis. I'll admit that the song matched the trailer pretty well, but when I hear the song on its own, it does nothing for me.

So, I choose Kimi ga Iru Kara. ;)

I much prefer Kimi Ga Iru Kara. It's a bit generic but quite nice. "My Hands" is a travesty of a pop song sung by someone who can't pronounce half the words "I look into the miwwa".

However, My Hands actually fits the scene really well! So although it's a rubbish song, it's a great choice for the game.
