There are a lot of rumors going on about if there should be a remake of Final Fantasy VII. Yoshinori Kitase, the producer of Final Fantasy XIII, said that it will be highly unlikely.
I think the game doesn't need a remake, because a remake can get only worser than the original. What do you think? |

Imo no, they might as well have done a remake already with all the FFVII stuff they have been churning out. FF AC, Crisis Core, mobile phone game, Dirge of Cerberus...
We've seen enough of FFVII. I'd rather they go back to the quality of the FF's prior to X-2 (Squaresoft era), but that won't ever happen... |

I read that they would only remake if they could get it done in a yaer and i feel a remake although i would love to play it would only do the game bad justice

Final Fantasy 7 may not be my favourite FF, but its certainly seen by many as a classic. A remake could reel them in plenty of money, but they know that if they did a remake, it would be compared by time and time again, to the original. And since the original is a classic, people will argue that it overshadows its remake version with exemption to the graphics of course.
Looking at it logically, I don't know why they won't make a remake, I'm sure it'd be a smash hit. Though I myself am not fond of the idea of a remake. Leave FF7 where it is right now, as a classic RPG game on the PlayStation. Because otherwise, I think it would detract from the feel of the original game, in the sense that its a classic that should remain relatively undisturbed from remakes or spin-offs or what have you (its also why I am vehemently against the FF7 spin-off games and merchandise, though I heard Crisis Core was meant to be quite okay). Though I am genuinely surprised that SE has not been working on remaking FF7, I would not be surprised if they turned tail, and still would do so. |

I feel that a remake would be a nice idea in theory. The thought of replaying those scenes in superior visuals makes me wet in my pants a bit. As well as the idea of being able to perhaps touch up on some of the clunkier game mechanics.
Though in reality, the remake will probably do harm to the game's legacy. I think the spin-offs of the game have already done a lot of harm, not to the legacy of this classic but instead to the integrity of the company. And a remake that is not perfectly done right will seriously be slandered, and could cause massive loss in revenue.

Oh wow a very difficult question to answer.
I would love to see a remake, just for curiousity sake. I would love to see a remake of all the classic Final Fantasy games - mainly for graphics update, and voiceovers. It would be difficult to satisfy the fans again though, we would all be expecting something quite grand from it. It would take away from the game, quite a bit. I just hope the classics will still be out there available for FF fan newcomers to try. The fact that they have it available on the PSN store makes me happy!! |

I think he's right. Changing the graphics of Final Fantasy VII will not make the game better; It got where it is by having the winning formula, meaning the whole package is how you win. Just like I didn't like FFIV DS better then the GBA version. I believe in ports, a little new graphics, but a complete remake would be a waste of time.

I would like to see a remake of Final Fantasy VIII, as in remastering the ingame graphics to the level of the cutscenes. (and of course with voice-acting)
However, I don't see anything like that happening anytime soon..

I think that there should never be a remake of final fantasy VII.
The game has nothing else to prove and if square-enix was to make a remake of final fantasy VII it will always be compared to the original final fantasy VII. Just because the possible remake will always be compared to the original is why it will not be a successful remake. Yeah of course it will make a lot of money but it will never be as good as the original.

Id like to see a remake of FFVII, just to see it in up-to-date graphics and fixing the story plot holes.
They cant go wrong with remaking the game in just up to date graphics, its not like they have to change anything only the graphics, thats all people have asked for. |

I have heard the back and forth on this rumor for years. At a few points it was said there would be, and other points that it will never happen. At this point I don't think it is set in stone either way.
From a money stand-point, they would almost be foolish not to because it would be almost guaranteed to bring in a large chunk of cash. From the fan stand-point. They would have to do one helluva job to satisfy even a part of the FF fan base. From what I have seen all over on many forums, it is split pretty much down the middle. Half say no never, the other half say YES! I am torn on this one, 7 was really when I got into the FF series as a true fan (I played the older ones and did like them but 7 was my first favorite game on any system). While I think the graphics and such would be great to see, I am also worried about the "greatness" (for lack of another word) being compromised with a remake. I personally think they need to maybe start with a remake for 8 or 9 (or both) and see how well they can keep the integrity of the games first. While they did have "better" graphics than 7, they are still far from what we have now with 13. If they kept the game (story, battles, etc) the same I think it could work. It would also possibly bring a younger generation into the FF fandom who have never played 7. It is fairly hard to find a good copy of now, and if you do find one it costs as much as a ps3/360 game new, which for some people it has kept them from ever experiencing such a great game. So I am torn on this one, I am not begging them to remake, but I am not either saying a flat out no.....

I think a re-make would not only be massively popular and we would all hope that it would be well done, with great graphics, original storyline and good voice acting, but it could go horribly horribly wrong
![]() I do however feel as though it could be remade, but this will only happen when the company needs the money. We all can imagine how well it would sell...there is a hunger for it, and fans are constantly urging them to re-make it. I think It will stay as a fallback for when money is desperately needed...and I dont think that will be any time soon...

But I think it would be quite difficult to bring back the same battle system they used in VII. I don't think SquareEnix could pull off bringing back the turn based system since it is so old school. Right now they did somewhat go back to it slightly with FFXIII but it still isn't quite the same feel. Remaking Final Fantasy 8 and 9 would be wonderful to see as well but it would be wasting their money and time. I think their best move is to leave it alone unless they are in desperate need of money, but also as I said earlier to keep the classic copy available through the means of PS store. If they really wanted to continue with the Final Fantasy VII franchise maybe we can see some sequel to FFVII: AC (as a video game) - Denzel (I don't know the spelling) could be a playable character

I'm still not sold on the idea of a remake. I don't think anyone is completely, and to be honest everyone here seems to think it could go terribly wrong if not done perfectly.
The idea that they would do this in a time of financial need seems plausible, but not entirely likely. Yes it would sell, and I mean it would fly from the shelves, but it would also be just as easy to create something new. Square-Enix has a very powerful reputation and a game packing the company's logo is bound to make some cash, and see quite a bit of coverage. So then, why would they need to create the remake? I feel the only way this remake will come to be is if the fan-base demands it, and if the company chooses to listen. They will never be in such a low financial situation to need to make a remake of an older game. They do it because they want to, and because the fans want it too.

Final Fantasy I has been remade twice since 2000 ( and twice before that) on both GBA and PSP. The same goes for Final Fantasy II. Final Fantasy III has been remade (DS). Four has been remade for both DS and GBA, and 5 and 6 again for the GBA. And these are just the recent remakes; The first 6 Final Fantasy's have been re-made and re-released several times. Mainly because the old consoles died. What I think FFVII needs more then a remake is just a console port. Make it available on UMD for the PSP. We know the PSP could handle it. ANd if they do make a port, do the same for Final Fantasy VIII and Final Fantasy IX. |
