Default Star Ocean: The Last Hope

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the latest game in the Star Ocean series. The game was first released on the Xbox 360, but last month an International version was released on PlayStation 3.

What do you think about the game? I haven't played it yet (since I want to play FF13 first), but I heard it isn't as good as the other games in the series.

I have almost completed it, and I think it is an alright game. I guess I had high hopes for it since I was disappointed at some of the RPG games they have already released on to the next Gen consoles.

The gameplay is fun, I'll give it that and the environments are very stylish. I just don't have a strong attachment to any of the characters. The characters are fun to play with, but their personalities are rather unbelieveable or stereotypical. I also much rather Fayte as a lead character than Edge - maybe it could be my preference on the voice actors (voice actors are crucial when creating the identity of video game characters in my opinion).

But I would still give this game a try for sure though!

Voices didnt bother me too much as voice acting in games is pretty new, we had to relate to characters with just text before and did just fine

I liked the game, not as good as Star ocean till the end of time, but still good. The battle system was nice and tactical, story was pretty good too, though I did get lost a few times, with what was actually happening.

If im right, the game is actually a prequel?

I haven't got the game yet because I want to play through final fantasy XIII before I get it. there are also many other games that I have got that I need to start or play though, so I think it will be a hile until I do purchase this game.

I liked the text because I either imagined what type of voice they had or I would do the voice acting myself XD (I know I'm a nerd).

Star Ocean Till the End of Time was absolutely amazing - I especially loved that plot twist near the end. This is one of the few RPGs that I won't ever forget about.

Yes the game is suppose to be a prequel.

I love the Star Ocean series, period. But I do have to admit that although TLH is pretty great I still prefer the earlier games myself.

It is a prequel, yes. I guess I did not realize that at the first, because it took me a bit to catch on to that fact and confused me for a bit lol. Makes more sense once I caught that.

I did not get as into the characters in this one until later into the game, but some of them do have their "loveable" qualities. Just takes a bit longer to get attatched.

Yes, I don't remember what though. But it's called "International Version" cause it's got all the changes they made to it when they re-released it in Japan.

You can select Japanese voices in the International version and they changed the character portraits.

Is that all they really changed? I was expecting something like other International versions such as an extra dungeon, boss, maybe even some battle system edits, and even maybe an additional character or something. >_<

They have tweaked the battle system, theres enough characters as it is xD

Its not true to other international versions as its a port.

Haha! I did this too!!! Even with some dramatic pauses and sighs and such! =)..I believe, as you do, that voice acting is crucial. Otherwise just give me back my text box! =)

But, I have been looking into getting this game. So you guys are saying it's worth it? I've never actually played a SO game, but I've heard good things about them from their story lines to the game play. Should I start with this one or should I go pick up a previous one?

Some of you have also said that it's a prequel? So, I will be able to understand the story fine then, seeing as I have not played any of the other SO games?

It is a prequel as more in a setting way, like for historical purposes mainly. You will still be able to follow the storyline if you chose to follow with any of them - they are indepedent from each other but are only set in the same Universe.

Do you own a PS2? I would personally start off with Star Ocean 3, Til the End of Time. The gameplay is easy to follow with, and the storyline was quite good!!

This game is still good but I prefer Star Ocean 3 hehe. I would give this game a try eventually, especially if your tastes are sci fi, and you like to explore!!
